How To Contribute A Calendar Event
Back over on the left hand side toward the top is that new section that appeared after you logged in. Titled "Authoring Content" and appearing just under the "Home" link, this is also where you go to contribute a calendar event. Click on the "Create Content" link. When the options appear again, click on the "Event" link. A new page will now be displayed titled "Submit Event".
To give us an example to work with, pretend there is a Diversity Devotional being held on January 17th, 2008. This event will start at 7pm and go until 8:30pm. It is being held in Ashland and is open to the public.
The first two items you will note are the "Start Date" and "End Date". Initially today's date and time will appear in the fields listed. Start with the "Start Date". The first field is the day of the month. Change this to "17" (without the quotes, of course). Next click on the drop-down arrow and select the month by clicking on "January". After this, change the year to "2008" (again, without the quotes). For the next field, change the hour to 7 by selecting it from the drop-down. Likewise, change the minutes to "00" by selecting it from the next drop-down. Lastly, since the event starts in the evening, click in the circle next to "pm".
Next, set the "End Date". Again today's date and time will initially appear in the fields listed. The first field is the day of the month. Change this to "17" since the event starts and ends on the same day. Next click on the drop-down arrow and select the month by clicking on "January". After this, change the year to "2008" (again, without the quotes). For the next field, change the hour to 8 by selecting it from the drop-down. Likewise, change the minutes to "30" by selecting it from the next drop-down. Lastly, since the event ends in the evening, click in the circle next to "pm".
Next go to the text field labelled "Title". Enter "Diversity Devotional" here.
Next move down to the blue bounded box labelled "Categories". These two drop-down lists take a little explaining. The drop-down labelled "Highlights" corresponds to the items listed under "Missouri Highlights" in the navigation on the left of the page.

Highlights (Missouri Highlights)
- Study Circles -- The event is for a study circle going on somewhere in Missouri.

Since this is a devotional, select "Devotionals" from the list of selections.
The next selection box under "Categories" is titled "Region". This selection box lists areas of Missouri. Pick and click to select the one that most closely indicates the area of the state of Missouri for which this event is most applicable. Since our example event is happening in Ashland, click on the listing for Ashland to highlight it.
Scroll down to the text entry area that is labelled "Body". In this text entry area is where you will enter all the relevant information the public needs to know about this event. You might type in something like the following...
This event will be held at 123 North Street in Ashland and is open to the public. Please feel free to bring your friends. A pot-luck dinner will be held to start the event, so please feel free to bring a dish to contribute. There will be prayers, songs, and discussion to help deepen and encourage diversity in and around the Ashland community. Call 417-555-1234 if you need directions or want more information.
Note: When including phone numbers, always remember to include the area code. Not everyone lives in your area and may need the area code to reach the contact phone number.
Note: Clearly indicate if the public is welcome.
Now you are almost done. Scroll down the page and you will see a link line that says "Comment settings" Click on this link. Three new options will appear. They are "Disabled", "Read only", and "Read/Write". Comments are little postings that other people can make in reply to your calendar entry. Note that only other Boone Baha'i Authors can make comment postings to your calendar entries. The general public cannot make comments to your postings. The three options you have are...
- Disabled -- Nobody can make comments on your posting and no comments are displayed.
- Read only -- People can read the comments previously posted but cannot add any more comments.
- Read/Write -- Other Authors can both read and write comments on your posting.
Finally, when you are done, click the Submit button at the bottom to contribute your calendar entry.
The web page in your browser will refresh and show your completed event posting. You will also see a notice that your calendar entry has been created. That's it. You've just made your second contribution to The Boone Baha'i.
Note that next to the posting date it lists the "Devotionals" and "Ashland" selections that you made. Visitors to the web site can click on these. If they click "Devotionals" they will see a listing of all contributions which have been placed in the Devotionals category. If they click "Ashland" they will see a listing of all contributions which have been placed in the Ashland region.
If you notice something you want to change in your event posting, simply click on the "Edit" link under the posting title. The editing page you saw previously will be re-displayed and you can make whatever changes you need to your contribution. You can edit and re-edit your posting as many times as you need.
After the event is over, you may decide there's no more use in letting people post comments on it. That's fine, simply edit the posting, scroll down to the "Comment Settings" and set it to "Read Only" and click the Submit button. Comments already there will remain, but no one will be able to add any more comments.
Viewing a Calendar Event
In addition to clicking on the link to "Calendar" under your posting, you and visitors to The Boone Baha'i can click on the Public Events Calendar link in the left side navigation. There are a bunch of options. They can click on the "List of Events" link to see a listing. They can click on the name of the month to see a full-page "month-at-a-glance" type listing, or they can click on a listed day that is in bold type. This last option will show only the events listed as occuring on that particular day. Lastly, the ">>" and "<<" arrows let visitors move back and forth from month to month to look for dates which are in bold.
Removing a Calendar Event
You can remove one or more of your calendar entries by clicking on the title so that the "View" and "Edit" links are displayed. Then click on the "Edit" link. To remove the entry, scroll all the way to the bottom and click on the "Delete" button. A confirmation page will be displayed which asks you "Are you sure you want to delete [title-of-your-calendar-posting]?". If you click on the "Delete" button again, you will permanently remove that calendar entry.
